Adrastea is the second most internal satellite of Jupiter's known so far. This moon was discovered thanks to the photographs taken by the Voyager 2 space probe in 1979. In 1983 he was officially awarded the name of the mythical Adrastea, daughter of Jupiter and Ananké, who was in charge of awarding the awards and punishments .
Adrastea and Metis are located within the main ring of Jupiter, and are believed to be the source of material for the ring. Apart from this, very little is known about Adrastea. It is the smallest of the four indoor satellites, and belongs to the Amaltea Group.
Although in the artistic representation of the image it seems almost spherical, Adrastea has an irregular shape. Its approximate measurements are 20 × 16 × 14 kilometers. Its composition and mass is unknown. If we assume that its average density is like Amalthea, we could estimate its mass at about 2 × 1015 kilograms. Because of its density, Amalthea could be composed of water in the form of ice, with a porosity of 10 to 15 percent, and the Adrastea moon would be very similar.
The orbit of Adrastea is within the synchronous orbital distance of the planet Jupiter, so the tidal forces cause a slow decrease in its orbital height. It orbits around Jupiter within a radius of 129,000 kilometers. Adrastea is one of the three satellites of the Solar System that orbits your planet in less time than the planet's day lasts. The other two are Deimos and Phobos, satellites of Mars.
