Maksutov (telescope)

Maksutov (telescope)

It is a special type of astronomical telescope that combines the use of lenses and mirrors to give an image devoid of aberrations, both spherical and chromatic.

It takes the name of the Soviet Maksutov (1896-1964), who in 1946 was the first to do it.

The construction scheme is similar to Cassegrain, with the difference that the light rays, before being sent to the primary mirror, pass through a concave corrective sheet.
